When Richard left for work this morning, he called from the driveway to tell me that a pair of geese and their adorable goslings were in the neighbor's yard. So, I scramble outside, still clad in my jammies, hair sticking straight up looking like I was in some bizzare 80's punk band, with a sleeve of Premium saltines in my hand, ready to be adored by geese waddling up to me for a handout.
Boy, was I wrong.
They ignored me. Turned their little goose tailfeathers toward me and sauntered in the other direction. I tried to get their attention. Yelled "Hey, geese!" Tossed some crackers towards them, hoping that food would lure them over. Even followed them through the neighbor's yard for a bit, cracker in hand (fortunately, the neighbors are in Florida for the week). How needy am I?
They got my hopes up for a minute when they decided to cross the street and briefly looked my way, but then the grass was literally greener on the other side and they went on their way. They left me alone, looking pitiful in my driveway, crackers in hand and no waterfowl to give them to.
Little ingrates. Hmmmph.

First, a little eye candy....
of the waterfowl variety....
gen-u-ine goslings in my front yard. They wandered up from the lake into my front yard this afternoon after we got home from Rome. I can state categorically that goslings (and their parents) prefer saltine crackers to Wheat Thins. We've seen several goose families around the lake this year, but this one's the first to venture this far up. The parents were protective, hissing at us while they accepted the offering of saltines, but I think they knew we meant them no harm. HRL, on the other hand, was barking fiercely from behind the safety of the window.
More eye candy....
These are the socks that I made for my mom. She was quite thrilled with them as she has a couple of pairs I made last year and she wears them to sleep in. They're knitted out of Lion Brand Wool Ease using a pattern out of Creative Knitting, November 2005. Very easy pattern and a good one for beginners, I think.
Other stitching and/or knitting this week?? I was humbled by a lace scarf pattern that I liked starting so well that I've done it 4 times so far, and I'm looking forward to starting it again. I got about half done with my first sock of the April shipment in the Rockin Sock Club (lace again... I sense a trend), and I've dropped stitches so I'm sending it to the frog pond. I'll be starting that over this week. Pooh. I've started stitching a needleroll at my mom's request for her little 87 year old friend who is also a very good friend of mine -- looks like a quick stitch, so with any luck I'll make some progress this week.
We spent Memorial Day weekend with my mom in Rome. Ate too much as usual, and Richard was great in helping her do a lot of things around the house that needed doing. Oscar and I tried to stay out of the way. :)
Looks like another busy week with clients. I'm hoping to get a bit more stitching and knitting in along the way -- all while on the lookout for goslings, of course!

Thank Goodness there's a race tonight......
Have I mentioned that I'm just a good ol' North Georgia redneck girl? Just one step (and several college degrees) above that #8 tattoo (well, that and a fear of pain... and reprisals from my mom if I ever got one of those during her lifetime). I guess the #8 tattoo would have been an outstandingly bad idea anyway considering Dale Jr. is now changing teams.
At any rate, I went to Rome (Georgia, that is) today to see my mom, and it took me two hours to make a normally 45 minute drive home thanks to the stupidity of someone on the interstate that blocked all 4 (count 'em!) lanes south on the drive home. Needless to say, I'm a bit frazzled, even with the enthusiastic greeting I got from HRL on my return home. (Nothing like a dog at home to make you feel loved. Doesn't matter where you've been or how long you've been gone -- it's like "Wow! It's been ages since I've seen you! Come here and pet me! I love you so much!)
So I checked the local listings, as they say, and there's a truck race on tonight, so it'll be me, hubby, and HRL watching the trucks turn left. And I'll be knitting on my mom's sock. Got the heel turned last night, so I can pick up the instep stitches and maybe even get the foot done tonight. :) Optimism... it's a lovely thing.

A Work in Progress
So, I decided to join the 21st century and actually publish a blog. I wondered if I had anything of substance to say, but considering all the other cool kids had one, and in my mind I've always been a little nerdy girl desperately trying to be a cool kid, I decided I'd better get one.
My blog, like me, is a work in progress. You'd think that as a 40-ish (nay, nearly 50-ish) female, I'd have figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up. But what I figured out a long time ago is that the growing up stuff is for the birds. I try to do what I want when I want. Some stuff gets done; other stuff doesn't, but in the end.... everything that *really* matters will.
So much for philosophical drivel. I plan for my blog to be about whatever strikes my fancy at the moment, but it will pretty much concentrate on my passions in life: my stitching, knitting, and my new passion of spinning (that's fleece into yarn --- of course, most of you who will bother to read this will know that, unlike those my husband tells and to whom he has to explain that spinning is not some type of exercise equipment. Frankly, I loathe exercise).
The true loves of my life are my husband Richard, my dog, His Royal Lowness (HRL) Oscar, my mom, and all of my wonderful friends, just about all of whom I can trace to either stitching, knitting of spinning. It all comes around in a circle, and that's pretty kewl.
What am I working on now?? I'm knitting one pair of socks for my mom. I'm working on installment two of the Rockin' Sock Club (www.rockinsockclub.com), and knitting a cardigan that I don't think is ever going to get done. I'm stitching White Nights in St. Petersburg by Martina Weber which will be absolutely gorgeous.
I hope to get pictures posted of some of these as soon as I figure out how to upload them. :)
Thanks for reading and stay tuned!!! I hope we're gonna have fun.
